Cabinet matching: new doors, one finished kitchen

New factory finished wood doors only look right when everything around them matches. Cabinet frames and boxes are painted or veneered to match new door finish, so the finished kitchen reads as one set of cabinets.

Why it matters

The doors are new. Everything around them has to look new too.

Your new doors and drawer fronts are made to order and finished at the factory. They are full overlay, so they cover most of the cabinet frame.

What still shows is the edge of the face frames, the cabinet ends, the island back and the trim. If those do not match, the kitchen looks patched instead of new.

So we finish the cabinet frames and boxes in your home to match the new door finish, and add matching panels where the biggest surfaces show.

How we match

Paint or veneer, chosen by your door

Painted finish

The most common method when you choose a painted door, or a darker stain than you have now. Our new doors are full overlay, so they cover most of the frame and hide small variations.

Wood veneer

Thin wood or laminate veneer finished to match your new doors. The right choice for lighter stains, an exact grain match, or laminate cabinets that cannot be painted.

Decorative end panels

We almost always add door-style panels to cabinet ends, islands and peninsulas. It matches the biggest exposed surfaces to your new doors and gives a custom cabinet look.

Matching plus the details

A contrasting island color is one of the most popular choices we see. Add decorative door panels on cabinet ends and island backs, crown molding, corbels, soft-close hinges and new drawer boxes, and the kitchen looks custom built.

FAQ

Questions we hear a lot

Do you refinish my existing doors?

No. We replace the doors and drawer fronts with new ones finished at the factory, then match the cabinet frames and boxes to them in your home. It holds up far better where your hands touch every day.

Will the new doors match the cabinet boxes?

Yes. We paint or veneer the face frames and add matching end panels so the finished kitchen reads as one set of cabinets.

Can I use my kitchen during the work?

Through most of the work, yes. We protect the space and work in sections. We will go over the plan for your kitchen before we start.

Can I do a two-tone kitchen?

Yes. A different color on the island or on the lower cabinets is one of the most popular choices we see.
